Indigenous Fisher Peoples Network

Indigenous Fisher Peoples Network (IFP) is a research and advocacy NGO (non-governmental organization) located in Kisumu, Kenya on the edge of Lake Victoria.
According to their website:
"IFP’s formation was inspired by many years of neglect and wanton marginalization of fisher people from mainstream social, political, economic and culture of “modern” society. IFP hopes to address this exclusion and marginalization through research, policy advocacy and capacity building related to indigenous fisher peoples’ development."

So just what do I have to do with this organization? I've just become their newest Governance and Development intern! What does this mean? Well...that one's a little less clear. What I do know is that I'll be working for IFP for 3 months this fall doing pretty much whatever they tell me to do: research, fundraising, event planning, writing, grunt work, coffee making?

Though I've told you most of what there is to know about them, you can check out IFP's website: http://fishersrights.org/
